On October 24, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved in Chinese shipbuilding as GNV Polaris, the first vessel in a series of four innovative luxury roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) passenger ships, was officially named at GSI Shipbuilding Terminal in Nansha, Guangzhou. This vessel, contracted by Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC) and built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, is set to redefine luxury maritime travel.
HBM, a key partner in this project, was honored to participate in the naming ceremony. As a major contributor to the interior construction, HBM's expertise and commitment to quality were instrumental in bringing this vessel to life.
GNV Polaris is a state-of-the-art vessel, designed to accommodate 1,500 passengers and 3,100 lane meters of cargo. It boasts a spacious 6,000-square-meter public area and 298 cabins of various types. This impressive vessel represents a significant leap forward in Chinese shipbuilding, showcasing the industry's ability to design and build world-class luxury cruise ships.
A key aspect of this project was the localization of interior materials. HBM's deep understanding of the construction requirements enabled the team to achieve 100% localization, contributing to the overall success of the project. This milestone not only highlights the capabilities of Chinese shipbuilders but also underscores the growing importance of the Chinese shipbuilding industry on the global stage.
